Student Internship and Summer Training Policy

Internships and summer training programs play a critical role in bridging the gap between academic knowledge and real-world applications. The Student Internship and Summer Training Policy aims to provide students with the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in their respective fields of study, enhance their employability skills, and prepare them for their future careers.

This policy sets out the framework for facilitating internships and summer training, including the roles and responsibilities of the institution, students, and industry partners.

To provide students with real-world exposure and practical experience in their field of study.
To enhance the employability skills of students and improve their career prospects.
To promote collaboration with industries, organizations, and businesses to offer valuable training opportunities.
To integrate academic learning with professional skills development.
To encourage students to apply theoretical knowledge to solve real-world problems.
Scope

This policy applies to all students of ASGI who are required to complete internships or summer training as part of their curriculum or those who voluntarily choose to do so for career development purposes. The policy covers:

Internships: Short-term, project-based assignments offered to students
Summer Training: Extended training programs, usually during the summer break, offering in-depth exposure to the industry or specific domain.
Duration of Internship and Summer Training

Internships: Internships may range from 4 weeks to 6 months, depending on the program requirements, the company’s project duration, and the department’s guidelines.
Summer Training: Summer training programs typically last between 45 days, conducted during the summer vacation after the first year.
Process for Internship and Summer Training

Industry Collaboration: The institution will collaborate with industries, companies, NGOs, research organizations, and government bodies to identify internship and training opportunities for students.
Placement Cell: The ASGI Placement Cell will actively seek partnerships with industry leaders to offer internships and summer training programs, as well as provide assistance to students in finding opportunities.

Students must register for internships and summer training through the official placement portal or the placement cell.
Internships and training must be pre-approved by the respective faculty advisors, the internship coordinator, or the training coordinator to ensure alignment with the academic curriculum and career goals.

An Internship Agreement or Training Letter must be signed by the student, the institution, and the industry partner. This document will outline the responsibilities, scope, duration, and stipend (if any) associated with the internship or summer training.

An orientation session will be organized by the institution to inform students about internship expectations, guidelines, and workplace ethics. Students will also be briefed on the evaluation process and safety measures during their internships or summer training.

Active Participation: Students must actively engage in the internship or summer training program, demonstrating initiative, professionalism, and a willingness to learn.
Reporting and Documentation: Students are required to submit periodic progress reports, maintain a daily logbook, and complete any assignments or projects as instructed by their internship supervisor or trainer.
Feedback and Evaluation: At the end of the internship or training period, students must submit a final report or presentation that summarizes the learning outcomes, challenges faced, and the skills gained. They must also submit feedback about the organization and training experience.
Responsibilities of Faculty and Internship Coordinators

Guidance and Support: Faculty and internship coordinators must guide students in selecting appropriate internship or summer training opportunities based on their field of study and career goals.
Monitoring Progress: Coordinators will regularly check the progress of students during the internship and ensure that students are meeting the institution’s expectations.
Evaluation: Faculty members will evaluate student performance based on the final report, supervisor feedback, and their overall participation. This evaluation will contribute to the student’s academic grading, if applicable.

Providing Opportunities: Industry partners are expected to provide meaningful internships and summer training opportunities that align with the student’s field of study and career aspirations.
Supervision and Mentorship: Industry partners should assign an experienced mentor or supervisor to guide the student during the internship or summer training period. This mentor will oversee the student’s work, provide regular feedback, and assess performance.

Evaluation Criteria: The evaluation of the internship or summer training will be based on the following:

  • Performance in the project or tasks assigned.
  • Professionalism, time management, and conduct.
  • Quality of the final report or presentation.
  • Feedback from the supervisor at the industry or training partner.

Certification: Upon successful completion of the internship or summer training, students will receive an official certification from the institution and the respective industry partner, acknowledging their participation and performance.

Stipend: Some internships and summer training programs may offer a stipend, depending on the agreement between the student and the industry partner. The stipend amount will be determined by the hosting organization.
Travel and Accommodation: In cases where the internship or training requires travel or relocation, students are encouraged to apply for financial assistance, scholarships, or stipends offered by the institution or external funding sources.
Institutional Support: The institution will assist students in obtaining financial support or travel grants, if available, for internships or summer training in underserved areas or with non-profit organizations.
Internship and Training Feedback and Improvement

Student Feedback: After completing their internship or summer training, students must fill out an internship feedback form to evaluate the experience, including the mentorship quality, tasks assigned, and overall learning.
Industry Feedback: Feedback from the industry partner on the student’s performance will be collected to improve future internship offerings.
Continuous Improvement: The internship and summer training policy will be reviewed periodically by the placement cell and the academic council to incorporate feedback from students, faculty, and industry partners, making improvements where necessary.
