Objective
The objective of this policy is to prevent and eliminate ragging at A.S. Group of Institutions, ensuring that students can pursue their education in a safe and conducive environment. The policy sets forth guidelines for the Anti-Ragging Committee to address, prevent, and act against ragging activities on campus, ensuring compliance with legal requirements.
Scope
This policy applies to all students, faculty, staff, and visitors of A.S. Group of Institutions. It covers all forms of ragging, whether physical, psychological, or verbal, including bullying, harassment, and any other activities that cause harm, discomfort, or distress to students.
Definition of Ragging
Ragging is defined as any act that violates the dignity of a student or causes physical, emotional, or psychological harm to them. It includes:
- Physical ragging: Any form of physical abuse or intimidation.
- Verbal ragging: Any form of abusive language, threats, or humiliating comments.
- Psychological ragging: Any form of harassment, mental torment, or distress.
- Sexual ragging: Any form of sexual harassment, including inappropriate behavior or advances.
- Social ragging: Forced isolation, coercion, or any activity that forces students into uncomfortable situations.

The Anti-Ragging Squad will maintain vigil and conduct surprised raids on the places vulnerable to incidents of ragging. The Anti-Ragging Squad will conduct an on the spot enquiry into any incident of ragging referred to it by the undersigned, the parents and the students. The findings of enquiry report along with recommendations shall be submitted to the Anti-Ragging Committee for action.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Chairperson/Head of Committee: Oversee the activities of the Anti-Ragging Committee, ensure implementation of the anti-ragging policy, and act as the final authority for any decision.
- Faculty Members: Report any incidents of ragging, provide support to the victims, and help maintain awareness of anti-ragging measures.
- Student Representatives: Serve as the voice of the student body, raise awareness about ragging, and act as a support system for victims.
- Non-teaching Staff: Assist in monitoring areas prone to ragging, like Canteens, Ground and academic buildings.
Prevention of Ragging
Awareness Programs
- Mandatory awareness sessions will be conducted for all new students during orientation to educate them about ragging and its harmful effects.
- Awareness campaigns arranged in the campus, informing students about the consequences of ragging.
Reporting Mechanism
Complaint Procedure
- Any student who witnesses or experiences ragging must immediately report it to the Anti-Ragging Committee by Directly contacting any member of the Anti-Ragging Committee.
- The identity of the complainant will be kept confidential to prevent retaliation or further harassment.
Immediate Action
- Any instance of ragging, once reported, will be immediately investigated by the Anti-Ragging Committee.
- The victim will be provided with appropriate counseling and support during the investigation.
- Counseling or Warning: In mild cases, students may be subjected to counseling or a written warning.
Punishments and Consequences
For the Offender(s)
If a student is found guilty of ragging, the following penalties may be imposed:
- Suspension : Suspension from the institution for a specified period.
- Fine : A fine may be imposed, the amount of which will depend on the ragging incident.
- Counseling or Warning : In mild cases, students may be subjected to counseling or a written warning.
- Disciplinary Action : More severe forms of complicity may result in suspension or fines.
Monitoring and Review
- The Anti-Ragging Committee will review the implementation of this policy annually.
- Regular feedback will be taken from students, faculty, and staff to ensure the effectiveness of the policy and take corrective actions if necessary.
- The committee will update the policy as needed to reflect changes in legal requirements or institutional needs.
